Four Corners Special Education Day, Navajo Nation Museum
On September 1, 2026, Navajo Family Voices (NFV) participated in the 2026 Four Corners Special Education Day, held at the Navajo Nation Museum in Window Rock, Arizona. NFV staff helped coordinate and support the event and operated an exhibitor booth throughout the day. Trudy Billy of Encircle Families was the lead coordinator this year
The event brought together families, parents, educators, disability advocates, and organizations providing special education and disability-related services throughout the Four Corners region. The agenda included presentations on early intervention, IDEA Part B referral and eligibility, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), dispute resolution, and navigating school support.
NFV staff provided information, resources, and referrals to participants who visited the booth. Staff connected families with available services and organizations that can assist with special education, disability rights, parent support, and advocacy. The event also highlighted the network of Four Corners Protection & Advocacy Organizations and Parent Training & Information Centers available to families.
The event recognized the importance of strengthening family knowledge, advocacy, and access to appropriate educational support for children with disabilities. The agenda specifically acknowledged Navajo Family Voices and the Navajo Nation Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services for their sponsorship and support of the 2026 Four Corners Special Education Day.
