Creating Opportunities Through Education and Career Services

My name is Daryl King, and I am a Senior Program Project Specialist for Education Career Services under the Navajo Division of Children and Family Services, Department for Self-Reliance.

Being part of Youth Day is important to me and my team because it gives us an opportunity to share information and connect families with resources that can help them move forward. Through Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), we work with families to help them move from welfare to work. Our Education Career Services program also helps families pursue vocational certificates so they can gain the skills they need to begin their own careers.

Events like Youth Day are especially important because they allow young people and families to see what is possible for them. I believe there are opportunities available when people are willing to take the first step and stay committed. Your circumstances do not have to define what you can accomplish. With the right approach, commitment, and dedication, there are many things you can achieve.

My message to young people is simple: get up early, meet your peers halfway, and stay committed and dedicated to the goals you set for yourself. Success takes effort, but when you believe in your goals and continue working toward them, you can create opportunities for yourself and your future.
