$300 FAMILY CHILD CARE COVID STIPENDS
UPDATED 1/14 4:00 PM: Due to overwhelming response, application acceptance will close at midnight on Friday, Jan 15.
Navajo Family Voices, in coordination with Northern Diné COVID-19 Relief Effort, is providing one-time stipend checks in the amount of $300 for homebased family child care. The checks are intended as community assistance and acknowledgement of family resilience. Funding is provided by New Mexico Early Childhood Funders Group, Santa Fe Community Foundation.
With the absence of professional childcare services on the Navajo Nation in New Mexico, families have been self-reliant during prolonged COVID lockdowns and curfews since March 13, 2020. Childcare, wellness, activities and learning so critical for early childhood development must be looked after from within. Numerous families have had to self-address early childhood and family wellness in kinship groups. We salute and celebrate all your efforts.
Who is Eligible?
Families who live on the Navajo Nation in New Mexico, and who are relying on kinship during COVID in providing childcare, wellness and learning for infants and children aged 8 or younger, or children of any age with extra healthcare needs, are eligible to receive a one-time check. Kinship childcarers (grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins, adult/older children) or parents may apply. Priority is given to families which address childcare, wellness, learning and activities for the children and for the whole family in a coordinated way, building on kinship relations. If selected for funding, you will be asked to fill out a W-9. The check is for the benefit of the kinship family caring unit as a whole. Please call or email if you have any questions.
How Do I Apply?
There is no application form. Please provide us with the following information by mail or email. (Families who need to covey verbally may call us and a family advocate will assist. We are also able to provide Diné language assistance):
